Well, for anyone looking to have their luxury safari experience on the Rovos Rail, there is still space available for the Cape to Cairo journey this winter.

This rail safari that Rovos Rail operates every two years was sold out almost twelve months ahead of time for the 2008 edition. The 2010 journey is a different story. It seems the recession has had a big effect on this, and other luxury rail trips.

Intersestingly enough, there were only three Americans on the 2008 journey and the rest of the passengers were from every corner of the globe!

Our 27 day (10,000kms) journey from Cape Town to Cario, packaged and provided by Rovos Rail was one of the best vacations we have ever experienced. The luxury train portion of the trip (Cape Town to Zimbabawe) was abosolutely elegant. The accomodations were first class, the service was excellent and the food was great ( although I tried some Osterish meat which was not my favorite). The bar reminded me of a salon that you would see in an old American Cowboy Movie, and my Remy Martin VSOP was always stock and available. I truly cannot say which portion of the journey we enjoyed the most, but to our surprise we thouroughly enjoyed our "tent" accomodations in the Serergetti, and Egypt was the icing on the cake. We have traveled all over Europe, So. America, Caribbean Islands, Tahitians Islands and the Mediterranean Region. I can truly say that this trip ranks among the very best.
